Why DopaSpeak exists

The app I needed back then.

It started with a Spanish song. I was in the car and wanted to understand what was being sung. Not after a 200-day streak. Now.

School English never worked for me, vocabulary apps even less. DopaSpeak is the app I would have needed back then: you pick the music you love, and the AI breaks it down for you, word by word.

We build DopaSpeak in Germany because I want my daughter to one day learn languages with her favorite music, without her data being sold.

What is the Natural Decoding Method?
An approach to language learning that works the way your brain learns. Instead of cramming vocabulary lists, you read the literal meaning under every foreign word. You read the structure of the language along, and it becomes familiar on its own, the way a child learns its mother tongue.
Do I need an internet connection?
For the AI analysis you need your own API key (Google Gemini, OpenAI, Claude or OpenRouter; your key, your provider) or the local model after a one-time download. Music playback and content you have already loaded work without a connection.
Which languages can I learn?
The app contains 20 languages: German, English, Spanish, French, Italian, Portuguese, Dutch, Swedish, Polish, Russian, Ukrainian, Greek, Turkish, Arabic, Hindi, Japanese, Korean, Chinese (Mandarin), Thai and Vietnamese.
How much does DopaSpeak cost?
DopaSpeak is free to use: no subscription, no account. You use your own API key (for example Google Gemini with its free quota, OpenAI, Claude or OpenRouter) or download a local AI model once (Gemma, about 3 GB) that then runs on the device. Any running AI costs are settled directly with your provider; you pay us nothing.
Which devices are supported?
Android 12 or newer. 6 GB RAM is recommended, 8 GB or more for the local AI model. The web version runs in the browser on phone and desktop. An iOS version is planned.
How does learning through music work?
You pick the audio file of your song on the device and enter title and artist. DopaSpeak fetches synced lyrics where available, splits them into verses and decodes every line word for word. Without an audio file you can also paste the lyrics as plain text.
How does DopaSpeak protect my data?
DopaSpeak was built in Germany. In on-device mode your learning data never leaves the device. In cloud mode your text goes to the AI provider you chose, never to us. Lyrics come from LRCLIB, the local model from Hugging Face. No tracking, no analytics.
Can I use DopaSpeak without an account?
Yes. DopaSpeak needs no user account. You bring your own API key or use the local model. Without signing in, no learning data is sent to us. Optionally you can sign in to the game with Google or Apple; then we store only your progress so you can use it on several devices.
